Now in Business Basket Singapore, we have a wide variety of entrepreneurs with a set of unique special skills
We shared some Law of Attraction tips from a fengshui master previously and today we are sharing styling tips from a tailor and image consultant!
Just imagine for a moment that you went to a networking session and you look around you, what do you see?
Then look down at yourself and look at the clothes you are wearing. Do you stand out or do you blend into the group?
Now if you already stand out from the crowd, then today’s tips is just a reminder of how important it is to capture that first impression!
But if you blend into the group, then keep your eyes peel and ears open as we share 4 tips to make the best impression during a networking event!
Gary Foo from Sors Studios is a well-established tailor and image consultant, and besides personalizing your wardrobe to stand out from the crowd, he is also ACTA certified and conducts
image talks and workshops for corporate and SMU, etc.
Besides serving clients from Singapore and Malaysia, he has also had international clients from UK, USA and India.
Now when we go for a networking event, the first impression counts and that is usually when we see the person coming over to talk to us (or when we see someone we want to approach)
And that’s why we are sharing 3 tips to improve your image for the best first impression!
3 styling tips to stand out during a networking event!
1) Dress smart & presentable
Now you might be thinking this is pretty common sense, and it is. Yet, how many actually put in the effort to do this?
Especially when we consider that Singapore is warm enough to make people prefer to wear casual down to a business networking event
Wearing casual… might make a different first impression… unless somehow it links to your business and industry
Dressing up well will make an appealing factor, as well as to show how professional you are, especially when it comes to business dealings
2) Understand the dress code and environment to select the appropriate clothing
Now, we might recognize when we need to dress a certain way, like for a black tie event, but the environment does play a part which many don’t realize
For this we have to recognize the time of the event, as well as the venue lighting and setting
You see if the venue has good lighting, and it is a networking event in the day time, most colors and clothes will work fine
However, if it is at night or the venue within has dimmer lighting, then some of the darker shades of colors will just look black – essentially, they don’t stand out
Besides considering a brighter color or a lighter color, like a standard white shirt just so that people can see you, you can also consider having an accessory to help people remember you as you network
Especially if it is so dark that you can’t see the face so well!
3) Using colors to form that first impression
Colors are so important! In the visualization earlier, you probably saw men with black or blue suits, white shirts, very usual colors which is why colors will pop you out from the crowd!
For ladies, it is pretty straightforward with the colors on the clothes and dresses, and of course, makeup is also important
For men, even if you want to go with a different shade of blue, that already stands out. Naturally, you can add some color with a pocket square for your suit to stand out.
And if you are a bit more adventurous, you can explore other colors which may also link to your brand!
To sum up
Whether we are starting out as an entrepreneur, or we are already well established, networking is a great way to get to know more people, form collaborations, and work together
This community can grow and prosper much more easily with such teamwork
Our image and style can go a long way when we make an awesome first impression during a networking event
